'The Mary' departs from the Public Wharf, Mary River Parklands, Wharf Street.
Heading upstream, the cruise boat passes the site of the old port, recently refurbished as 'Portside', where wharfing, gardens and pathways border the exceptionally
well-preserved buildings of Wharf Street.
As 'The Mary' idles along the river at a leisurely pace, Denis keeps up an informative commentary telling of the Granville Bridge and its hefty tolls, Walker's days of
shipbuilding, the Sugar Mill and the trials of the Hyne Sawmill, which was relocated after the disastrous flood of 1893.
The downstream loop of the tour is an architectural treat taking in the early Queensland homes built along the Mary River in the affluent area of Doon Villa.
The graceful curves of these homes contrast to the sharp lines of the state-of-the-art Brolga Theatre, built to resemble the Wilson and Hart Sawmill which had
previously occupied the site for more than a century.
